Shot entirely on location in Spain, Chimes at Midnight is Welles’ last black and white film, and was brought to fruition thanks to the determination and bravery of Spanish producer Emiliano Piedra. The adaptation of Shakespeare’s Falstaff is a showcase for Welles’ talent. Aside from writing the screenplay, Welles directed, acted and even managed the film’s wardrobe.
