Now retired as Chair of the History Department of Madrid’s Complutense University, José Álvarez Junco has been writing about the political history of Spain for four decades, winning some of the country’s most prestigious prizes for his work such as Los movimientos obreros en el Madrid del siglo XIX (1981); La ideología política del anarquismo español (1976), El Emperador del Paralelo (1990), Las historias de España (2012), Periodismo y política en el Madrid de fin de siglo: el primer lerrouxismo (1983) and Mater Dolorosa. La idea de España en el siglo XIX (2001). Among the topics he will discuss with journalist and writer Juan Cruz is the appearance of new political forces in Spain that could change the electoral landscape.
