Diaspora, or the hejira, has been a feature of Arab literature since the beginning of the Islamic era, becoming particularly powerful after 1948 for Palestinians, and for Iraqis since the 1990s. Displacement, and the footprints left behind on the journey, the memory of the Tigris and the Euphrates, the evocation of unforgettable events later transformed into writing, the destruction of identity and its recreation in new places will be among the themes Abdul Hadi Saadoun, Bahira Abdulatif and Muhsin Al Ramli will discuss with Nuria Medina, Casa Árabe’s Coordinator of Cultural Programmes.
