Lane Ashfeldt discusses the pros and cons, and practicalities of raiding history books and family stories to create fiction. The short stories in Lane’s book SaltWater cover the century from 1918 to 2018. SaltWater was longlisted for the Frank O'Connor International Short Story Prize and the Edge Hill Prize.
