The author of Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, Birds Without Wings and Notwithstanding: Stories from an English Village transports us back to the vivid Mediterranean landscape of his novels in his début poetry collection Imagining Alexandria. The poems are a blend of the erotic and the philosophical, rich in history and longing – the perfect homage to Cavafy, whose Collected Poems have stayed in de Bernières’ pocket ever since he was introduced to the work on a visit to Corfu in 1983. Louis will also read from some of his unpublished works. He talks to Sean Rocks, Presenter of Arena on RTÉ Radio 1.
