In 1975, Japanese mountaineer Junko Tabei became the first woman to summit Mount Everest. Jo Bradshaw summited Mount Everest in 2016. Dr Jenny Hall is researching the experiences of contemporary and historical adventurers. Tori James was the first Welsh woman to climb Everest, aged 25. Historian Kate Nicholson is a historian and has written Behind Everest, about Ruth Mallory, whose husband George died on his third attempt to scale the mountain. Rebecca Stephens became the first British woman to climb Everest in 1993.
