The US novelist Siri Hustvedt, who has a doctorate in English Language from the University of Columbia and received a Princess of Asturias Prize for Literature in 2019, is the author of several books of fiction and essays. Her most recent book is Memories of the Future (2019), which tells the story of a writer who finds the diaries from her youth, recently arrived in New York in the 1970s, with little money and a lot of curiosity. Thus she revisits the experience of first love, writing her first novel and her relationship with a strange neighbour who gives monologues each night that the author writes down in her diaries. The protagonist’s past and present come into dialogue in this novel about the passage of time, the role of women in society, art, and the writer’s personal motivations.
