In programming to support the management and mitigation of our environmental impact, we have produced workshops and outreach work that stimulate debate and discussion about key issues facing us today.
In 2018 we teamed up with the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) for Trans.MISSION and in 2019 for Trans.MISSION II, projects pairing leading scientists with award-winning artists to communicate cutting-edge science to new audiences at Hay Festival and beyond.
In 2017 as part of Hay Festival’s 30th Anniversary celebrations, we undertook a range of projects in support of our sustainability programme, engaging our audience in activities that aimed both to educate and directly improve their local environment, creating a sustainable legacy. Partnering with The Woodland Trust, our Thirty Acres project fostered the creation of digital and real-life woodlands across the UK.
Hay Festival and Levi Strauss & Co (2014) and H&M (2015), invited fashion design students across the UK to participate in the Just Fashion Lab, an experimental space looking to inspire a new generation of fashion designers to consider sustainability as integral to their design process. Selected participants were invited to take part in a 5-day workshop, ending with a live event at Hay Festival.
In 2022 we teamed up with Lloyd's Register Foundation to bring you Oceans Futures, a new range of activities and events which took place during the Festival. Lloyd’s Register Foundation is a global charity with a mission to engineer a safer world and we worked with them to raise awareness about their Safer Oceans campaign.
