Alex Huerta-Mercado holds a PhD and a Master's degree in Anthropology from New York University, where he also received a diploma in Culture and Media. He has a degree in Anthropology from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, where he is a Senior Lecturer, and he is also currently Dean of General Studies in the Humanities, and Editor of the journal Anthropologica. He has published the books El chongo peruano: una antropologia del humor nacional (Estruendomudo, 2019), Feliz Seré. Chisme, humor y lagrimas en la cultura popular peruana (PUCP, 2022) and Derramaba Lisura: Frases célebres de la cultura popular para entender el Perú (Planeta, 2024).
