(Bogota, 1949) He studied Sociology at the National University of Colombia and took a doctorate in the same subject from Cornell University. He has been a visiting lecturer and conference speaker at universities in Europe and the United States. He was a columnist for the Colombian newspaper El Espectador and, based on this work, won the Simón Bolívar National Journalism Prize. His works include El rumor del astracán (1991) now in its fourth edition, Sobre la faz del abismo (2002), Flaubert: historia de una cama (2004) and a compilation: Seminarios y talleres con invitados internacionales de la Maestría en Escrituras Creativas (2012). His latest work, Migas de pan (2013), investigates the relationship between the Second World War and the Colombian conflict.
