(Valledupar) History graduate from the University of Cartagena, with postgraduate studies in History from the University of the Andes and El Colegio de México. As a historian by profession and writer by vocation, he is concerned with issues related to the nation, memory, discourse, representation, popular culture, and political and cultural history. He is the author of the books Un diablo al que le llaman tren, El incómodo color de la memoria, and he is co-author of the book Desorden en la plaza. Modernización y memoria urbana en Cartagena. A tireless publisher of journalism, essays, opinion, research articles and interviews in national and international media outlets. He regularly writes for El Malpensante, a magazine in which he has a monthly column entitled De cierta manera. Historia y matices. He is also a columnist for the newspaper El Espectador, and in 2014 he received an award for Afro-Colombian of the Year in the Media and Journalism category. He has been an advisor to the Ministry of Culture, the National Center for Historical Memory, the International Center for Caribbean Studies at the University of Cartagena, the Truth Commission and the Cartagena de Indias Historical Museum. He is currently an advisor to the Bogota District Institute of Heritage and Culture.
