His poetry books include Singladuras, Pértigas, Luces de talud, Nostos, El revés y la fuga and Suzuki Blues, the last three of which were collated for Trípode (2010), and also Prooémium mortis (2016), Atajos a la nada (Opiniones y versiones), Odiario (2018) and Del taoísmo al teísmo (2019). This year, the anthology Trenos de trinos: Poesía reunida (1983-2023) was published, including six previously unpublished collections. His essay collections include El sentinel de fuego and Los motivos de Eguren. Entre Heidegger y Bergson, both books dedicated to the symbolist poet José María Eguren; and Ptyx: Eielson en el caracol. He has written well-known translations of works by Pavese, Quasimodo, Tabucchi, Pasolini, Arnaut Daniel, Tieck, Rilke, Kafka, Södergran, Ågren, Haavikko, Saarikoski, Dinesen, Boberg, Pia Juul, Drummond de Andrade, Lêdo Ivo and Paulo Leminski. He is the founder of the Lima International Poetry Festival (FIPLIMA), a member of the Ricardo Palma Institute, and an honorary member of PEN Argentina. In 1988 he won first prize in El cuento de las mil palabras run by the weekly Caretas; in 2015 he won the Copé Bronce Prize, and in 2019 the National Literature Prize with a Special Mention in Poetry.
