Karina Pacheco Medrano (Cusco, Peru). Writer, anthropologist and publisher, she has a doctorate in American Anthropology and is qualified in Inequality, Cooperation and Development from the Complutense University of Madrid. She is the author of the novels El año del viento, winner of the 2022 National Literature Prize, given by the Peruvian Ministry of Culture; Las orillas del aire; El bosque de tu nombre; Cabeza y orquídeas, 2010 Federico Villareal National Novel Prize; La sangre, el polvo, la nieve; No olvides nuestros nombres; and La voluntad del molle. She is also the author of the books of short stories Lluvia; El sendero de los rayos, 2013 Luces Prize, awarded by El Comercio; and Alma alga. In the field of the social sciences, she has edited the book K’intu. Historias, memorias y recorridos de la hoja de coca. Anthology, 16th-21st centuries (2022), and has authored the books: Historia del Parque Nacional Bahuaja Sonene y de la Reserva Nacional de Tambopata; Racismo, discriminación y exclusión en el Cusco; Incas, indios y fiestas and La diversidad oprimida. Centralismo cultural y reivindicaciones excluyentes, Regional Essay Award from the Cusco National Institute of Culture. She runs Ceques Editores, an independent publishing house specializing in literature, history and anthropology.
