Mónica Lavín (1955) is the author of the novels Café cortado (Colima Narrative Prize, 2001), Hotel Limbo (2008), Yo, la peor (Elena Poniatowska Ibero-American Novel Prize, 2010), Las rebeldes (2011), La casa chica (Planeta, 2012), Doble filo (2014) and Cuando te hablen de amor (Planeta, 2017), which was a finalist for the Mario Vargas Llosa Novel Biennial in 2019; of the short story collections Ruby Tuesday no ha muerto (Gilberto Owen National Award of Literature, 1996), Uno no sabe (2003), La corredora de Cuemanco y el aficionado a Schubert (2008), Pasarse de la raya (2010), Manual para enamorarse (2012) and A qué volver (Tusquets, 2018); her works of essay are Leo, luego escribo (2001), Apuntes y errancias (2009), Sor Juana en la cocina (2010), Cuento sobre cuento (2014) and the interviews of Mexicontemporáneo (2016). She is currently a columnist for the newspaper El Universal and hosts the television programme Contraseñas, for which she interviews literary figures. She is a lecturer and researcher at the Autonomous University of Mexico City’s Academy of Literary Creation.
