(Santo Domingo, 1957). Acclaimed Dominican singer. He has sold more than 20m albums worldwide, and been the recipient of many awards, including 15 Latin Grammys and 2 US Grammys.
His first hugely successful album was Ojalá que llueva café (1990). His musical style is a mixture of merengue and bolero, as well as afro-pop fusion and jazz. Guerra often uses a bachata rhythm but with more melodic bolero influences.
Guerra is also known for his social commitment, protesting against poor social conditions in many Latin American countries. For this purpose, he created the Juan Luis Guerra foundation.
His most recent album is Todo tiene su hora, which was released in 2014.
