Humberto de la Calle Manzanares (1964) is a lawyer and politician. He is also a poet, columnist and writer, and has worked as a diplomat on several occasions. In 1990 César Gaviria appointed him Minister of the Government and in 1994 he became Ernesto Samper’s vice-president. In 1998 he acted as Colombian Ambassador to the Organization of American States and later joined President Álvaro Uribe Vélez’s first government, until 2003. In September 2012, President Juan Manuel Santos appointed De la Calle head of the team that was negotiating peace with the Farc. In this position, De la Calle became the face of the government’s negotiations. In 2019 he published the book Revelaciones al final de una guerra, testimonio del jefe negociador del gobierno colombiano en la Habana (Debate), which is essential for understanding the war in Colombia and its effects. With the ethical viewpoint that he identified in the constitution of 1991 and with a peaceful spirit, De la Calle presents the principles that guided the Havana Agreement.
