Irene Vasco is a Colombian writer. She has published numerous books for children and young adults, some of which have won important awards. The most famous ones are Conjuros y sortilegios, Letras al carbón, Mambrú perdió la guerra and La joven maestra y la gran serpiente. Besides, her reading guides Expedición Macondo, Expedición Las 1001 noches and Expedición El Principito are widely appreciated in libraries and schools. She received the recognition from the Colombian Ministry of Education for “Vida y obra dedicada a la educación (Life and work dedicated to education)” in 2021. Vasco devotes a large part of her life to workshops on reading and training the readers. She frequently participates in state and institutional programmes aimed at indigenous and rural communities. She also participates in international congresses and seminars as a lecturer. In addition to being a specialist in children’s and young people’s literature, she is a Portuguese and French translator.
