In 2000, she was awarded the the CJFE International Press Freedom Award, given by the Canadian Journalists for Free Expression, as well as the International Women of Courage Award in 2012, which is given annually by the United States Department of State to women around the world, for her work as an activist and her coverage of sexual abuses in Colombia. in 2014, she was selected as one of the thirty Top Leaders of Colombia.
