(Spain, 1957) The editor of El País since the 3rd of May, 2014. Born in Jaen, he studied journalism at Madrid’s Complutense University. He began as a journalist with the Efe agency and entered El País in 1982. Since then, he has worked in different positions at the paper, including as sub-editor, Mexico correspondent, correspondent in Washington (where he spent ten years), and has covered media in 50 countries. In the United States, he has set up El País América, a website dedicated to news in the Americas, which has experienced spectacular growth. As the editor of El País, the flagship publication of the Prisa Group, he has supervised, among other matters, coverage of the Spanish crisis and the abdication of King Juan Carlos.
