She was born in Veracruz, Mexico. She is the author of the book of chronicles This is not Miami and the novels Falsa liebre, Hurricane season, the latter translated into more than 35 languages and finalist for the prestigious Booker International Prize in 2020, and Páradais, nominated for the Dublin Prize 2023. Her work has won several national and international awards, including the Anna Seghers Award, the Berlin International Prize for Literature, and the 2018 PEN Award for Literary Excellence.
