cottin-menena She studied graphic design in Caracas, at the Neumann Foundation Institute of Design. She later took courses in book illustration and writing for children, at Parsons School of Design, and traditional animation, at the Pratt Institute, both in New York, and began to create books. Author of The Black Book of Colours (Tecolote 2006), translated into 19 languages, it has won various awards including: the New Horizons Award, at the Bologna Book Fair, 2007; the Prix Litteraire de la Citoyenneté, France, 2008; Top Ten Children’s Books, New York Times Book Review, New York, 2008; 2015 ALAS-IDB Award for Best Children’s Publication, Washington DC. She is the author, illustrator and designer of over 30 conceptual illustrated book of very varied subjects which form the basis of the Buscando la Esencia exhibition. After being presented in Caracas (2016) and Miami (2018 and 2019), the exhibition comes to Cartagena as part of the Hay Festival. This interactive journey through 18 of her conceptual books, adapted to three-dimensional formats, offer visitors of all ages a surprising reading experience.
