(Colombia) Gaitán is a scriptwriter and the celebrated creator of several Colombian soap operas and TV programs, among them Azúcar, Café con aroma de mujer and finally Gaitán's greatest achievement, Yo soy Betty, la fea. It has been repeatedly adapted for an international audience and won the award for Best Soap Opera in 2002. Other awards and accolades include India Catalina (1993, 1994, 2000, 2001), Simón Bolívar (1994), El Tiempo (1999, 2000), Radio Caracas Televisión (2000), Asociación cronistas del Espectáculo de EEUU 1995), TP de Oro de España (2001), premio GES and INTE Award (Miami, 2002).
