Born in 1973 in Tehran, Shappi Khorsandi’s family moved to London and were exiled after the revolution of 1979.
After studying Drama, Theatre and Television at King Alfred’s College (now Winchester University), Shappi worked in community theatre, at a well-known sandwich shop chain where she was promoted to chief BLT maker, as a telephone fundraiser and a life model whilst starting out on the stand-up comedy circuit.
Having worked in stand-up for over ten years, Shappi has performed all over the world including sell-out runs of her solo show at the Edinburgh festival and The Melbourne International Comedy Festival. She has appeared on countless radio and television programmes including Have I Got News For You, Tonight with Jonathan Ross, Just a Minute, The News Quiz, The Now Show, Mock the Week, Live at the Apollo, Question Time and Newsnight Review, and in 2009 had her own series for BBC Radio 4, Shappi Talk.
