Carlos Oriel Wynter Melo is a writer, editorial advisor and teacher. He was selected as one of the 39 most important young writers in Latin America as part of Bogotá39, a project run by the Hay Festival in London, the Secretary of Culture of Bogota and supported, as honorary jury members, by the writers Héctor Abad Faciolince, Piedad Bonnet and Óscar Collazos. His novel Las impuras was one of the first books by a Central American author published by the Planeta publishing house. Furthermore, he was chosen as one of the 25 Best Kept Secrets in Latin America on the 25th anniversary of the Guadalajara International Book Fair. In addition, he has won several literary competitions within and outside the country. He was an advisor to the Ministry of Culture of Panama between 2019 and 2021. He has been teaching courses, with in-person and virtual methodologies, on all aspects of literary creation since 2004. He is on the Board of Directors of the International Authors Forum (internationalauthors.org), an organization that defends the rights of creators of written works. He also manages the Society of Publishers and Authors of Panama, a collective management organization of which he is the founder.
