(United Kingdom, 1951) A journalist and writer. She studied at the Cheltenham Ladies' College and did Mathematics at Kent University. At the beginning of the seventies she co-founded the magazines Spare Rib and Virago Press. She has worked for the Daily Mail, The Sunday Telegraph, Harpers & Queen and Esquire, but she is better known as an editor at The Independent on Sunday, The Independent and Daily Express. She is the author of a number of books, including an autobiography, A Nice Girl Like Me: A Story of the Seventies (1988); the novel All for Love (1989) and the book Spotted Pigs & Green Tomatoes: A Year in the Life of Our Farm (2007). She currently advises the Mayor of London on food matters.
