Gerard MARTIN

Gerard Martin. Dutch-born expert on contemporary urban and rural dynamics in Colombia and the region. He holds a Master's degree in Sociology from the University of Groningen (Netherlands), and a PhD in Political Science from the School of Advanced Studies in Social Sciences (Paris, France). He has been an academic curator and co-producer of several exhibitions on city topics, including Bogota. The Revival of a City, for the 10th Venice Architecture Biennial (Italy, 2006); Medellin. La Resurrección de una Ciudad, for the BID General Assembly (2009); and 8 Ciudades Colombianas en Transformación, for the 7th Ibero-American Biennial of Architecture and Urban Design (2011). His books include Medellín. Tragedia y Resurrección, Mafia, ciudad y Estado. 1975-2012 (Planeta, 2012); Medellín. Transformación de una ciudad (Alcaldía de Medellín and BID, 2009); Bogotá. El renacer de una ciudad (Planeta, 2006); Bogotá: Anatomía de una transformación (Ed. Javeriana, 2006); and Participación y fortalecimiento institucional a nivel local en Colombia (Ed. Javeriana, 2001). He is the editor of the recently published book by Sergio Fajardo and Alejandro Echeverri, Ciudad sin Muros. Relatos del urbanismo social en Medellín (Eafit and TEC de Monterrey, 2004).
