Florence THOMAS

Born in Rouen, France. She is a Psychology graduate and holds a Master's degree in Social Psychology from the University of Paris. She arrived in Colombia in 1967 and joined the National University of Colombia. Today she is a pensioner of that university as a Professor Emeritus of the Department of Psychology and since 1986 she has been the Coordinator of the Women and Society group of the same institution. A feminist activist, she has been an advisor to official and non-governmental organizations in the field of women's issues and gender studies. She is co-founder and member of the Roundtable for the Health and Life of Women. She has written several books, among which stand out Los estragos del amor, Conversaciones con un hombre ausencia, Conversaciones con Violeta, Hubo que decirlo and Nosotras las mujeres. Since 1999 she has been a columnist for the newspaper El Tiempo. In 2005 she received the Simón Bolívar National Journalism Award for the best opinion column. In 2017, she was awarded the National Order of the Legion of Honour by the French government, and in December 2023, she received the National Order of Merit for a lifetime of work defending women's rights in Colombia
