(Mollendo, Peru, 1939). Sociologist, writer, poet, Tai Chi (Taoism) teacher. Master’s in Sociology, U. Houston (1974) and in Religious Education, U. St. Thomas, Houston, (1991). She founded the Centre for Women Writers of Arequipa (1980), the Houston Poetry Fest (1985) and the Peruvian Association of Texas, Houston (1976). In the 1970s she was a columnist for the newspaper El Pueblo of Arequipa and again from March 2024 to the present. Publications: Poemas de antes y después (1980), Colección de poesía femenina peruana, Esencias (2005), Sabiduría para la segunda mitad de la vida (2009), Wen Fu: El arte de escribir de Lu Chi (2009), Impermanencia (2016), Preludio, poemas (2018), Sinfonía Testimonio, autobiografía (2023), Nuestra Arequipa Blanca y Bella (2024), and in English Images and Feelings from the Sea (1978) and the poetry book Going Beyond Limits (1997). She has received the In-Roads Award for Hispanic and Latino writers (Narrative and poetry) in 1996 and 1998, and the Medal of Culture of the Provincial Municipality of Arequipa (2012). In 2021 she was named Bicentennial for her contribution to the culture of Arequipa. In December 2022 she participated in the international platform TEDx Youth in Yanahuara. Since 2023 she has been an honorary member of REA (the Arequipa Writers’ Network) and is in the MEP writers’ organization (Comando Plath branch). She lived for 30 years in the United States and ten years in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain. Since 2006 she has resided again in Arequipa, Peru.
