Agustina Bazterrica was born in Buenos Aires in 1974. She has a degree in Arts (UBA) and is a cultural manager. She has won the First Prize in the Municipality of Buenos Aires Competition for an Unpublished Short Story in 2004/5; First Prize in the 38th Edmundo Valadés Latin American Short Story Contest (Puebla, Mexico) in 2009; the 2017 Clarín Novel Prize; and the 2021 Ladies of Horror Fiction Award (USA), among other awards. She has acted as judge for literary competitions including the 2021 National Arts Fund Prize and the 12th Itaú Digital Short Story Prize in 2022. She teaches writing and reading workshops and has published the short story collections Antes del encuentro feroz (2016), which was translated as 19 Claws and a Black Bird (2020); and the novels Matar a la niña (2013) and Tender is the Flesh (2020; Clarín Novela Prize winner). Since this last publication, Bazterrica has positioned herself as a bestselling author worldwide, with more than half a million copies sold. Published by the most prestigious publishers in France, Finland, Germany, the UK and the United States, among other countries, Tender is the Flesh has been translated into more than 31 languages ​​and acclaimed by major international media outlets. The New York Times, The Guardian, Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Le Monde and O Globo have echoed this success with excellent reviews of her work and talent. The novel is currently being adapted to the screen. In September 2023 her new novel Las indignas was published by the Alfaguara publishing house, and it is already in its fifth edition and is being translated for publication (it will appear in English as The Unworthy).
