Judith Vélez studied at the University of Lima in the Faculty of Communication Science, and also Documentary Film at the Atelier Varan (member of CILECT) created by Jean Rouch in Paris. She has a Master's Degree in Audio-visual Script Creation from the International University of La Rioja. Since leaving education she has worked with prominent directors such as Francisco Lombardi, Alberto Durant and others. In 1992 the film law was repealed and Judith moved to Los Angeles (USA), where she developed in the Latin advertising market. Upon returning to Lima she continued to be active in the fiction and documentary genres and also ventured into journalism. In 2002 she founded her company Nómade Films, and forged important links with international networks such as Arte Alemania, Arte Francia, Discovery Channel and National Geographic. In 2003 and 2004 she organised two important documentary film events, called El Cine de lo Real. In 2009, she ran ¡Libérenlos Ya! in the region, about the expansion and threat of the Colombian FARC in Latin America, together with journalist Pablo O’Brien. In 2006, she released her award-winning debut film La Prueba, which was selected for numerous international festivals, and her latest documentary, Volver a ver, won an Honourable Mention for Best Peruvian Film at the Lima Film Festival and the Cuarta Semana de Cine in 2018. She has been a jury-member at various film festivals and competitions and has participated on panels and at conferences. Vélez is a founding member of the Association of Film Producers of Peru (APCP) and the Association of Female Film Directors of Peru (NUNA). She is currently a member of EGEDA PERU and lectures at the Peruvian University of Applied Sciences, where she teaches courses on Film History, Production Management, and Audio-visual Projects. And he has a new project in hand entitled AKM SIBERIA.
