Founded in the city of Guanajuato as the Bajío Philharmonic, it moved to the capital city of Querétaro in 1992. In its educational efforts towards primary, secondary, and higher education students, the orchestra has designed various types of educational concerts, through which they visit schools in the municipality, the surrounding areas, and some in indigenous regions. This initiates the students into the cultural discipline of classical music, supported by the initiative of educational authorities. In October 2007, the orchestra was honored by participating in the Ceremony for the Designation of the Sierra Gorda Missions as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On November 24, 2016, the LVIII Legislature of the State of Querétaro declared the Querétaro State Philharmonic Orchestra as Intangible Cultural Heritage of the State. Following a selective process and with the full participation of all orchestra members, Maestro Mark Kadin was chosen as the principal conductor in 2023.
