Guillermo NIÑO DE GUZMÁN

nino-de-guzman-guillermo Born in Lima in 1955, he studied literature at the Universidad Católica, where he graduated with a thesis on Ernest Hemingway. He then worked in journalism, publishing, literary translation, and writing film and television scripts, in addition to hosting jazz radio programmes. His first book of short stories, Caballos de medianoche (1984), was prefaced by Mario Vargas Llosa. This volume was followed by Una mujer no hace un verano (1995) and Algo que nunca serás (2007). He has ventured into the field of young adult literature with the historical novel La conquista de los sueños (2007) and the fantasy novel La caza de la mujer jaguar (2011). His literary articles have been collected in La búsqueda del placer (1996) and Relámpagos sobre el agua (1999). He has also published the literary logbook Hasta perder el aliento (2022), the first instalment of his Cuaderno de Letraherido. He won first prize in the El Cuento de las 1000 Palabras competition run by Caretas magazine (1985) and the José María Arguedas Prize from the National Council of Science and Technology (1988). He was also shortlisted twice for the Mario Vargas Llosa - NH International Short Story Prize (2005 and 2006). He has been awarded fellowships by the French and Spanish governments on two occasions and has lived in Paris, Madrid and Barcelona. His work has been translated into English, German, Greek and Swedish.
