Comfrey Films is a Film Training Program and Production House designed to launch Black trans, gender nonconforming, and intersex (TGNCI) storytellers into the film industry and to tell stories on a global scale woven at the intersection of being Black and TGNCI. Comfrey Films is focused on building power and transformation through cultural organizing and narrative change led by and for Black TGNCI people throughout the South and globally. We believe that there is no racial justice nor trans/gender justice without economic justice, so we invest in the economic development and empowerment of our community by ensuring that every single staff member, contractor and creator we hire– from writers, to directors, to producers, to cast and crew–are Black TGNCI people. Our work is an ode to the comfrey plant used for wound closure and thus we center a framework of healing justice, wellness and sustainability in how we approach all of our productions.
