Essayist with a following on X. Specialist in Andean cultural history, with emphasis on literature, the press, racism and anticlericalism. PhD in Latin American Literature from the Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar (Quito). Senior lecturer at the Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences of the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos. He has published the books Las máscaras de la representación. El sujeto esclavista y las rutas del racismo (2005), La mirada de los gallinazos. Cuerpo, fiesta y mercancía en el imaginario sobre Lima (2013) and Hijos de la peste (2020). He has edited La república de papel. Política e imaginación social en la prensa peruana del siglo XIX (2009) and co-edited Autobiografía del Perú republicano. Ensayos sobre historia y la narrativa del yo (2015), Voces de la modernidad, Perú 1750-1870. Lenguajes de la Independencia y de la República (2017), among others. He has been co-director of a collection on Peruvian literature (Historia de las literaturas en el Perú) (2016-2022). He has represented Peru at several international book fairs and published more than 20 academic articles in research journals in different parts of the world. He has been a visiting lecturer at universities in Brazil, Spain, Switzerland, France, Germany and the United States. His latest book is Niños explotados y violentados. Servidumbre doméstica, cuervos religiosos y prensa en el Perú (2024).
