Anthropologist with a PhD from the University of Pittsburgh, with a track record of research on the pre-Hispanic past and how it has been appropriated in Colombian and Venezuelan societies. He has specialized in the Muisca and Tairona societies, and has carried out fieldwork in Tierradentro. He has received the Ángel Escobar Prize for Social Sciences and in his academic career he has been Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of the Andes and Academic and Research Vice-rector at the same university. He is currently Rector of Uniempresarial, a subsidiary of the Bogota Chamber of Commerce.
