Director of the FICME Medellin International Short Film Festival, she recently founded the La Selva del Cine production company along with Laura Mora, Mirlanda Torres, Manuel Villa and Pablo Mora. Her first feature-length documentary, Carta a una sombra, opened at the FICCI Cartagena de Indias Film Festival. The film, which she co-directed together with Miguel Salazar, won two India Catalina awards in the Official Colombia Competition. Abad was awarded an FDC grant in 2014 to write The smiling lombana, her second feature-length documentary. In 2015 she was awarded another FDC grant to make the film, and in 2018 the finished product was chosen to open the 2019 Cartagena Film Festival.
