What is the relationship between democracy and knowledge? How can we bring into harmony a commitment to objective fact with freedom of political opinion? In our so-called “knowledge society”, knowing is not only the motor of economic growth and innovation, but now holds a central place in political discourse and practice. At the same time, this creates very particular forms of political scepticism, such as disinformation, negationism and the conspiracy theories that spread on the Internet. Even the concept of freedom has become an ideological tool within the agenda of certain political sectors. In this conversation with Alberto Vergara, the philosopher Daniel Innerarity (Spain) will talk about his latest book, La libertad democrática (2023), which deals with our understandings of democracy and freedom.
