The winner of the 35th edition of the Loewe Poetry Prize, the Cuban, Reiniel Pérez Ventura, will read a selection of poems from his collection of poems Las sílabas y el cuerpo. Poet, Victoria León will read from her collection of poems Secret Light. Karina Sáinz Borgo and Fernando Iwasaki will also read from their works
Reiniel Pérez Ventura is a young Cuban poet, student of English and French at the Universidad Central Marta Abreu de las Villas. His work Elegías del inocente y el maldito received the Premio Extraordinario de Poesía Centenario de Carilda Oliver Labra poetry prize in 2022. His debut book, Las sílabas y el cuerpo, won the Loewe XXXV International Poetry Prize in 2023.
Fernando Iwasaki is a Peruvian narrator, essayist, historian, cultural manager and university professor based in Seville. He is the author of the novels Neguijón and Libro de mal amor, as well as more than ten books of short stories, compiled in anthologies such as iwasa KIT wasaki, Es difícil hacer al amor (humor) pero se aprende and El cóndor de Père Lachaise. His work has been translated into Czech, Russian, English, French, French, Italian, Romanian and Korean. He is a contributor to various media outlets.
Victoria León is a writer, translator and graduate in Hispanic Philology from the University of Seville. She has translated works of noted authors such as Mary Shelley, Oscar Wilde, R. L. Stevenson, John Ruskin, William Beckford and Ugo Foscolo into Spanish. She is the author of the book, aphorisms Insomnios (2017) and the collection of poems, Secreta luz (Vandalia, 2019), for which she won the Hermanos Machado IX Ibero-American Poetry Prize.
The event will be presented by the journalist Jesús Vigorra. His journalistic work on radio and television has garnered award such as the Ministry of Culture National Prize for the Promotion of Reading in 2006; the Spanish Publishers' Prize for the promotion and dissemination of books in 2003; the International Book Fair LIBER Prize in 2007; the University of Seville Communication Prize and the Aljabibe Prize for journalism.
