The Metrópolis Azul Prize is given each year to an author from any country who writes in Spanish, English or French, and whose work explores some aspect of the culture or history of the Spanish-speaking world; the award is given in the context of the Blue Metropolis Literary Festival, the first multilingual festival in the world, held in Montreal, Canada. Gioconda Belli (Nicaragua) is a hugely successful writer, a poet and activist whose work has been translated into over 20 languages; she won this prize in 2020, and has also received the Casa de las Américas and Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz prizes, among others. Claudia Piñeiro (Argentina), the author of around 20 works, including novels, short story collections, children’s literature and plays, has been distinguished with the 2005 Clarín Novel Prize, the 2010 Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Prize and the 2019 Metrópolis Azul. In conversation with Ingrid Bejerman (Brazil/Argentina/Canada), who is in charge of the Spanish and Portuguese programmes of the Blue Metropolis festival and the management of the Premio Azul, about the current production of feminist literature in Spanish, its resonance in other languages and cultures, and the important role that women have as militant writers.
