Thomas Piketty in conversation with Leopoldo Fergusson (Spanish version)

Cartagena 2022,

The acclaimed economist and academic, Thomas Piketty (France), is an expert in matters of inequality and poverty, and has won numerous accolades including the European Economics Association Award. He has a doctorate from the prestigious London School of Economics and he lectured both there and at the MIT in the United States. He is currently the director of the École des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS) and lectures at the Paris School of Economics (PSE). He is the author of Capital in the Twenty-First Century, a text that has sold over two million copies. His most recent book is Time for Socialism, a compilation of articles written for Le Monde between 2016 and 2020 that offers consideration on the social and economic crises that face the world. The book also demonstrates the evolution of the author’s thinking, which, 30 years ago, rejected socialist models; however, in a world so strongly characterised by the injustices and inequalities created by an all-encompassing and unrestrained capitalism, he now proposes that we need to progress towards a more democratic, sustainable system, with feminist and (against all forecasts) socialist awareness. Piketty talks about his book with Leopoldo Fergusson.
