On 6 October 2019 the journalist Javier Darío Restrepo died in Bogota aged 87. He was a trailblazer for Ibero-America on the issue of journalistic ethics. In over 1,900 replies published as Director of the Fundación Gabo’s Office of Ethics, Restrepo defended, above all, the importance of ethics for achieving quality journalism with a public service vocation. Inspired by his legacy, the journalists Mónica González (Chile) and Yolanda Ruiz (Colombia) will talk to Jaime Abello Banfi (Colombia) about the importance of recovering the trust of readers by exercising the profession in a way that contributes to the information needs of the public and which serves democracy, without forgetting the teaching of Gabo: “Ethics is not an occasional condition, but something that must always go together with journalism, like the buzzing sound together with a bluebottle.”
This event is organized by the Fundación Gabo as part of the Journalism Ethics Programme promoted by Bancolombia and SURA
