During his career, the Bolivian author Edmundo Paz Soldán has received awards such as the Juan Rulfo Short Story Prize (1997) and the Bolivian National Novel Prize (2002). His latest publication is Los días de la peste (2017), a turbulent novel that takes place in a prison called La Casona. The Colombian writer Pilar Quintana won the 2018 Colombian Fiction Prize for her novel La perra, a work about mother’s love, betrayal, loyalty, guilt and loneliness in human relations.
