The Arequipan, Martín López de Romaña, studied Philosophy and Theology before moving into photography and literature. Aged 13 he joined the Peruvian Sodalicio catholic congregation, of which he was a member for the following fourteen years of his life. In 2016, together with his brother Vicente López de Romaña, José Enrique Escardó Steck, Óscar Osterling Castillo and the journalist Pedro Salinas, he denounced the physical, psychological and sexual abuses of eight members of Sodalicio, including Luis Figari, the founder.
