The Mexican novelist and journalist Bernardo Esquinca is an outstanding exponent of what has recently become known as “weird fiction”, which combines elements of the detective, fantasy and horror genres. After works such as Belleza roja (chosen as Best First Novel by the newspaper Reforma in 2005) and four instalments of the Casasola saga, he presents Las increíbles aventuras del asombroso Edgar Allan Poe (2018), a novel that tells of the experiences and introspection of the young Allan Poe. Trying his luck in 19th-century New York, the man who would become one of the pioneers of horror writing confronts marvels and mysteries, including the disappearance of the beautiful Cordelia, the daughter of a freak show impresario. He talks to Antonio Cabadas.
