The author of Rebel of the Sands, one of the best-selling novels of 2016, will discuss what it took to launch her writing career and to maintain it. From the unpromising start of writing six books that she realised were not good enough for publication, she discovered how to build a whole world from scratch. She will give an insight into how imagining the background, creating the characters and devising an action adventure were all part the process of creating Rebel of the Sands, how she transformed herself from an art historian into a YA writer. This interactive event culminates in the students helping Alwyn to build a new fantasy world.
