Abelardo SÁNCHEZ-LEÓN
Abelardo Sánchez León was born in Lima in 1947. He studied Sociology at the
Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú
and did his Master's degree at the University of Nanterre, Paris X. Until recently he was a Senior Lecturer at the PUCP, in the Department of Communications. He has worked at DESCO and was the editor of
Quetrabajo
magazine. In 1980 he was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship and in 1989 a Fulbright Scholarship. He is one of the main representatives of the generation of poets of the seventies and in 2018 the Lumen publishing house published a collection of his poems entitled
Poemas reunidos
. Later on he published
Soldado de Dios
(Lumen (2019) and a new poetry book
El tumulto del sueño
(PEISA, 2022). He has also published five novels, including
La soledad del nadador
(PEISA, 1996),
El tartamudo
(Alfaguara, 2002) and
El hombre de la azotea
(Alfaguara, 2008), as well as books of non-fiction:
La balada del gol perdido
(PEISA, 1993, 1998) and
El viaje del salmón
(PEISA, 2005). This year he has published with the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú the long essay
Torrentes en pugna: Mario Vargas Llosa y Miguel Gutiérrez
. A fan of football and swimming. He supports Alianza Lima.
