Jessica Raine (Call The Midwife) read from Vera Brittain, Sylvia Plath and Virginia Ironside. Hay Festival President Stephen Fry chose entries by Alan Bennett and Samuel Pepys. Tom Goodman-Hill (Mr Selfridge, The Imitation Game) read excerpts James Boswell and Alan Clark. Marcus Brigstocke selected the diaries of Monty Don and Adam Kay, while Eric Ngalle Charles gave voice to Nelson Mandela’s prison diary. Representing the Courtyard Theatre in Hereford, Fletcher Garrard read from The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 133/4 (by Sue Townsend).
