Felicity Jones (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) read from The Diary of Anne Frank and Bridget Jones’ Diary (by Helen Fielding). Maxine Peake (Shameless, Hamlet) read extracts from Fanny Burney, Mary Shelley and Georgia Nicolson (by Louise Rennison). Jessica Raine (Call The Midwife) read from Vera Brittain, Sylvia Plath and Virginia Ironside. Hay Festival President Stephen Fry chose entries by Alan Bennett and Samuel Pepys. Tom Goodman-Hill (Mr SelfridgeThe Imitation Game) read excerpts James Boswell and Alan Clark. Marcus Brigstocke selected the diaries of Monty Don and Adam Kay, while Eric Ngalle Charles gave voice to Nelson Mandela’s prison diary. Representing the Courtyard Theatre in Hereford, Fletcher Garrard read from The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 133/4 (by Sue Townsend).
