India manages a huge democracy with every faith living and working side by side. Most people are tolerant of other faiths. It is the intolerant who strike up trouble between faiths whether within or outside a democracy.

Yes. Few - if any - of the organised religions can exist without an undemocratically appointed hierarchy and fanciful doctrine.

The problem is mixing religions from one culture with the democracy of another (I don't believe all democracies are the same)

No. not at all. How can they be incompatible. What religion is a religion that does not allow freedom of choosing who represents me or anyone else. How can I ever be guided to have a specific frame of mind. If religions really were made my GOD then it was HE who gave us the capability to think, reason and decide. How can HE make contradictions in two things that he made, because I believe GOD is faultless.

By and large. A fundamental society based around a single set of religious beliefs can be intolerant. Democracy flourishes best where there is healthy and open debate.

Not if each takes account of the other. Real democracy allows for individual and collective freedom to practise religion. Religion should not conflict with democratic rights
