Allan BREWER CARIAS

brewer-carias-allan Holds a degree (1962) and a doctorate (1964) in Law from Venezuela’s Central University, both with summa cum laude. Since 1963 he has been a lecturer at Venezuela’s Central University, where he has been Professor of Administrative Law, Head of the Department of Public Law and Director of the Institute of Public Law (1978-1998). He is currently a Retired Lecturer. Formerly a member of the board of the Inter-American Institute of Human Rights in Costa Rica; he was Vice-president of the International Academy of Comparative Law, based in The Hague, from 1982 to 2010. He is a member of the Venezuelan Academy of Political and Social Sciences, and was its President between 1997 and 1999; and he is a Foreign Correspondent Member, or Honorary Member, of the National Academy of Law and Social Sciences in Cordoba, Argentina (1992). He is also a member of the Colombian Academy of Jurisprudence, Bogota, Colombia (1996); of the Royal Academy of Jurisprudence and Legislation, Madrid, Spain (2008); of the Chilean Academy of Political, Social and Moral Sciences, Santiago de Chile (2011); of the Peruvian Academy of Law (2011); and of the Royal Hispano-American Academy of Sciences and Arts, Cadiz (2016).Since 1980 he has edited the Venezuelan journal, Revista de Derecho Público, and his extensive body of published work include over 170 books and over 850 monographic studies on public law (constitutional and administrative), public administration and institutional and constitutional history. In 1981 he received the Venezuelan National Science Prize for his work and career in the fields of law and social sciences.
