Guillermo QUIJAS

quijas-guillermo (Mexico, 1982) Born into a stationery and bookselling family that owned Proveedora Escolar, in 2002, aged 20, he became general manager of the business. He undertook the long process of expanding and modernising this company which, at that time, only had a single outlet in the historic centre of Mexico City. After 12 years of work, currently Proveedora Escolar has seven outlets in the capital and another in Puebla, which opened in March this year. Furthermore, with the goal of researching, promoting and disseminating literature and encourage reading, he founded the Fundación Ventura, the organisation that runs the Oaxaca International Book Fair (FIL). Currently, the FIL Oaxaca is one of the country’s most important literary events, thanks to the creation of a broad reading-based programme that brings together Mexican and international writers for more than 150 free events, which also include musical and artistic expression. In 2005, with the aim of introducing new authors and literary approaches, publishing genres that are often bypassed in commercial circles and finding new readers, he founded Editorial Almadía. In its first nine years of life, Almadía has built up an attractive catalogue of more than 200 titles of collections of fiction, poetry, detective novels and essays, including the recently launched Cartografías collection.
